The Shrine is REOPENING our doors!

Baltimore City Mayor Young has opened the City to Phase 2, allowing churches to hold indoor services with limited occupancy.  In accordance with both City and Archdiocesan protocols, The Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Mt. Washington will resume services on Saturday June 27/ Sunday June 28.

The Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Mt. Washington resumed weekend services as of June 27/ 28.  Daily Mass and Communion Services will resume the week of July 13.

The schedule of services will be as follows:

  1. Weekend masses will resume at the regular times: 5pm Saturday, 7:30 am, 9 am and 11:30 am on Sunday.  The church, chapel and undercroft have been marked off to allow limited capacity seating with appropriate physical distancing. Please follow the instructions of the greeters and observe the marking of available seating. We will fill the church first, then the chapel and then the undercroft.

  2. At the 9am and 11:30 am Sunday masses, weather permitting, we will have a loud speaker in the church garden to allow those who wish or who cannot find seating in the church to be outside. Communion will be brought to those in the garden. You will need to bring your own chairs or blankets for sitting if you wish. Please follow the instructions of the ushers for reception of communion.

  3. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available Saturdays at 4pm, prior to the 5pm mass. Two chairs will be set up in the sanctuary with appropriate separation for use by the priest and those wishing to go to confession. No one else  will be allowed in the sanctuary at this time to allow for the needed privacy. If you wish to go to confession at this time, please sit in the church observing the marked off seating arrangements and come up one at a time when the person before you leaves the sanctuary. If the priest must stop to prepare for mass before all who wish have been able to go to confession, please see the priest after mass to hear your confession.

  4. Daily services of mass or communion service will be offered at noon in the main church sanctuary. The same procedures will be followed for these daily services as for weekend masses.

We would also like to humbly ask you to remember to bring your envelopes and donations to Mass.  We are thrilled that we have been able to pivot and offer the Virtual Parish, not only over the previous few months, but also continuing this new virtual offering for our parishioners to stay connected to God's Word, both locally and globally. (yes!  we have global participants in our weekly services!)  We have invested in a new live-stream camera system and additional equipment to provide a variety of options for attending worship in the church, the undercroft, the Marian garden, and from home. We greatly appreciate any additional financial support that you may be able to give to support these efforts. Donations can be made at Mass or electronically through our website.  Thank you for your extremely generous support thus far - we are so grateful for all of you who have been supporting us and allowing us to invest in this new equipment!

Finally, please remember that at all times, you must wear a mask or face cover to be allowed in the church and only remove it for the reception of communion.  Other new protocols that will need to be observed are outlined in our Parishioner Guidelines:

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PROTOCOLS WHICH MUST BE FOLLOWED IN ATTENDING CHURCH SERVICES IN ORDER TO RESPECT EACH OTHER AND KEEP EACH OTHER SAFE:
